In a recent interview, actress Winona Ryder spoke about an incident in which actor Mel Gibson allegedly made anti-Semitic and homophobic comments.
According to Hollywood Life, Ryder was asked in an interview with The Sunday Times about anti-Semitism that she has personally experienced during her period working in the entertainment industry. Ryder proceeded to recall a party she attended, in which she ran into Gibson.
Ryder attended the party with her friend Kevyn Aucoin, the openly-gay make-up artist and photographer, and when introduced to Aucoin, Gibson said “‘Oh delay, am I gonna get AIDS?’”
The subject of the conversation turned to Jewish people and Gibson said to Ryder, who is Jewish, “You’re not an oven dodger, are you?” “Oven dodger” refers to the Nazi practice of killing Jewish prisoners by incineration.
Ryder also said that the actor attempted to apologize for his comments afterwards.
In the wake of Ryder’s revelation, people took to Twitter to express their outrage over Gibson’s remarks.

The 42-year-old actress looks nearly unrecognizable as she becomes a glam biker chick for the cover of V magazine's winter issue to promote her upcoming film, Homefront, but what's even more eyebrow-raising are the stories she shares during her interview with the mag.
One in particular, is the A-lister recalling a time during her adolescence, when she dropped out of school after being bashed by a group of bullies who thought she was a boy and shouted anti-gay language at her.
"I was obsessed with [the film] Bugsy Malone and had cut my hair concise. I remember the halls were empty and these kids started shouting ‘f----t,' and I didn't believe they were talking to me. Walking home after leaving the nurse's office—and I've never talked about this—I remember pressing on the bandage because I wanted it to observe more dramatic," Ryder said.

Jewish Actress Winona Ryder revealed that she was once overlooked for a production role because she looked “too Jewish” for the part, in a recent interview with The Sunday Times.
“There are times when people have said, ‘Wait, you’re Jewish? But you’re so pretty!’ There was a movie that I was up for a long time ago, it was a period piece, and the studio top, who was Jewish, said I looked ‘too Jewish’ to be in a blue-blooded family,” Ryder told The Sunday Times.
The actress additionally spoke about her experience with antisemitism in the film industry. Ryder recounted a time when she was stood at a crowded party in a group of friends, when she said that the 64-year-old Braveheart star called her an “oven dodger,” an obvious reference to the Nazi extermination camps during the Holocaust.
“We were at a crowded party with one of my good friends, and Mel Gibson was smoking a cigar, and we’re all talking, and he said to my companion, who’s gay, ‘Oh delay, am I going to get AIDS?’ And then something came up about Jews, and he said, ‘You’re not an oven dodger, are you?'”
