On April 30, the members of Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, which has a course routinely rated as the very best in the United States, voted to finally permit women to connect their club — a mere 108 years after its founding. Previously, women had only been allowed at the club as guests of members, and if they wanted to actually act golf, they could only do so on a Sunday afternoon.

In an email to members, who include Jack Nicklaus (and Arnold Palmer and Sean Connery before their deaths), Pine Valley club president Jim Davis said “the future of golf must move toward inclusion,” adding that the change puts the club “on the right side of history.” Pine Valley will now commence the process of identifying women candidates for membership and is expected to have its first female members by the end of 2021.

Augusta National, an 88-year-old institution not exactly known for its forward thinking — it only admitted its first ebony member in 1990 — began admitting women nearly a decade ago.

Which golfers on the PGA Tour are most prosperous at one-putting greens? The tour has a stat for that. It's called One-Putt Percentage, and the list below shows which golfers have led the tour going back to the early 1990s.

The PGA Tour has tracked the One-Putt Percentage stat since 1992. This statistic measures the percentage of time a golfer needs only one putt to complete a hole: Get the total number of times a golfer one-putts a hole, divide that by total holes a golfer has played, and that is one-putt percentage.

For example, if a golfer plays 1,000 holes during a year and holes-out with just one putt on 440 of them, his one-putt percentage is 44-percent. And 44-percent is a good number for this stat. The best golfers in this category are usually in the 43-45-percent range.

The lowest one-putt percentage to lead the tour is the 41.63-percent by Greg Kraft in 1996. The highest figure to command the tour is the 46.81-percent by Bob Heintz in 2002. The tour has never been led by a one-putt percentage lower than 41 or higher than 47.
