Why does fish refers gay

When I first came out as a trans* woman, the first thing to cross my brain was to watch, by textbookAmerica’s Next Top Modeldefinition, “pretty” and “like a girl.” I was so caught up with trying to fit myself into a mold; I became obsessed with this delusional idea of “passing” and fitting in. At the time, I only felt relaxed and accepted when disguising myself within the gender binaries that today’s world thrives on. I legitimately believed the only way to be happy as a trans* lady was to obscure the word “transgender” from my individuality. I convinced myself that with enough time I could trick my head into thinking my body’s gender-matched my soul’s and, in some kind of twisted turn, cease proclaiming myself as a trans* female. Wanting to go by myself off as a cis bodied individual did nothing but internalize a lot of transmisogyny and eventually produce loads of anxiety and depression.

The first time I heard the term ‘fish’ was when I was about 12 years old. A couple of my girl cousins were gossiping about some drag queens they’d seen at the local gay lock near our dwelling, so naturally, I had to slip my ear into the conversation. They kept saying phrases like “Sis she was so fi

Informant: In the lgbtq+ community, fish or entity fishy refers to how uhh accurately a performative queen presents as a biological female, I predict . This is hard to explain because I leverage it all the moment, haha. Usually we speak “oh, she is serving fish” or “oh, she is fishy” which is usually positive, and it is like saying they would pass as a woman because they are so fishy.

Interviewer: Where did you learn this term?

Informant: I picked it up from RuPaul’s Drag Race, which popularized a lot of the drag slang today that has kinda started getting popular in popular culture.

A fifth of male fish in UK rivers now ‘trans-gender’ due to chemicals in human waste

Twenty per cent of male fish tested in English rivers are now ‘trans-gender’ or ‘intersex’, with both female and male characteristics, due to chemicals flushed from UK households.

Research by Professor Charles Tyler, a foremost fish physiologist and eco-toxicologist from the University of Exeter, has shown male fresh-water fish are highlighting ‘feminised’ traits, demonstrating ‘female’ behaviour and even producing eggs.

The chemicals causing these effects are flushed down the loo and incorporate ingredients in the contraceptive pill, and by-products of cleaning agents, plastics, and cosmetics.

Professor Tyler will show his findings in the opening lecture of the 50th Anniversary Symposium of the Fisheries Society in the British Isles, held in Exeter University 3-7 July 2017.

The week-long symposium will include papers from international experts on fish physiology and behaviour, and discuss the threats fish populations face from over fishing, climate change and human pollution.
