Remember at the end of Inside Out 2, when Riley has a big scary secret and we get to discover it out? Successfully, get those gay thoughts out of your head. Disney reportedly made notes to make Riley seem “less gay,” per a September 16 report by IGN, based on conversations with ten former Pixar employees. Depicting Riley’s bond with older miss Val seem platonic was “a massive thing throughout” the process of making Inside Out 2, like editing lighting and tone to be less idealistic, per one origin who claimed that leadership was “uncomfortable” with what IGN refers to as “queer themes.”

Sources state Disney still blames a gay touch for being the reason that Lightyear (2022) flopped so hard. (The scene was briefly removed, then restored after staff uproar.) “It is, as far as I recognize, still a thing, where leadership, they’ll bring up Lightyear specifically and state, ‘Oh, Lightyear was a financial shortcoming because it had a queer smooch in it,’” a source told IGN. Is Riley from Inside Out 2 Gay?

Inside Out is one of Disney and Pixar's most interesting concepts. The 2015 animated show by Pete Docter focused on young Riley and the emotions inside her head. Each had its own avatar, led by Amy Poehler's Joy. Now, the Inside Out sequel from new director, Kelsey Mann, finds 13-year-old Riley going through puberty.

In addition, she is struggling in her coming-of-age story to accept changes in academy and with her friends. Intriguingly, from the trailers and video clips, many fans were curious if this was a homosexual story teasing a conflicted Riley coming out. Fortunately for curious fans, Inside Out 2 provides a definitive answer to this topic.

Inside Out 2 And What It Means To Be Queerbaited

Disney’s relationship with homosexual representation is complicated. Recent years acquire seen the organization improve with shows and films fancy The Owl Dwelling and Strange Earth, while also adding blink and you’ll miss it Homosexual characters in Increase of Skywalker and Avengers Endgame before cutting them entirely for certain territories.

Queer people are a demographic to be profited from prefer everyone else, so how much gay representation we spot in mainstream media is frequently down to how much money there is to be made. It’s a cynical outlook to accept, but in a world where we can be heralded as icons in fictional stories but still not afforded proper rights and support in life, it’s sadly a necessary one.

I don’t feel like I’m exaggerating when I say I’m probably the most prolific journalist covering The Owl House in the world. I’ve talked with writers, directors, actors, artists and many other people involved in its creation because I have an undying passion for it, and a large part of that is because it’s so unabashedly queer. Taking place in a nature without homophobia, the show h
