Adam Schiff Pedophile Hoax: Baseless Claims Circulate About Congressman
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff is a recognizable pedophile who has settled numerous sex crime cases out of court.
In February 2019, we investigated a rumor that U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff had used taxpayer capital to settle a sexual harassment claim in 2013. That rumor (which was entirely false) was based on a junk news article that cited a non-existent report from the Los Angeles Times.
A rare months later, just as Schiff, who heads the Home Intelligence Committee, started to hold general hearings in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, social media users added a devious twist to this false claim. An old photograph of Schiff with a child started to circulate on Facebook along with the claim that "Adam Schiff was a known pedophile" who had settled numerous sex crimes cases out of court:
There is no correctness to this claim.
Those spreading this rumor have offered nothing in terms of evidence to support this claim. When we "looked it up!," as the meme insists, the only thing we found to tangentially support this rumor was a months-old junk news article that we had already debu
Did Adam Schiff Use Taxpayer Money to Settle a Sexual Harassment Claim in 2013?
Adam Schiff used taxpayer money to silence a man who accused him of sexual harassment.
In early February 2019, social media trolls attempted to spread a claim that "congressional sources" had confirmed Rep. Adam Schiff (D-California) "used taxpayer money" to cover up a sexual-harassment accusation:
It's unclear where the rumor started, but on Twitter it was sometimes shared in association with a clearly bogus article from the junk news site TheNetSpies.com. That site is filled with obviouslyfalse information, and its "About" page states that "If you like our reporting, kick up your feet, partake of your favorite intoxicant(s) and stay a while. If not, depart ask your mommy to come down to the basement and nurse her 33 year old wuss."
On 11 February 2018, TheNetSpies.com published an article for which they alleged to have interviewed Los Angeles Times former Assistant Managing Editor Christina Bellantoni (which TheNetSpies misspelled as "Kristina Bellatori"). Bellantoni, they asserted, told the tale of a hapless (but non-existent) man named Will Bottom, who claimed to b

There is no evidence to support this claim, which has circulated since 2018. It has been repeatedly shared alongside a fabricated article about the supposed settlement and a 2017 CNN article about money Congress paid out in legal settlements, which doesn't bring up Schiff.

'No Blame?' ABC News finds 54 cases invoking 'Trump' in connection with abuse, threats, alleged assaults.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly distanced himself from acts of violence in communities across America, dismissing critics who show to his rhetoric as a potential source of inspiration or comfort for anyone acting on even long-held opinions of bigotry and hate.
"I think my rhetoric brings people together," he said last year, four days after a 21-year-old allegedly posted an anti-immigrant screed online and then allegedly opened flame at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, killing 22 and injuring dozens of others.
But a nationwide review conducted by ABC News has identified at least 54 criminal cases where Trump was invoked in direct connection with violent acts, threats of violence or allegations of assault.
After a Latino gas station attendant in Gainesville, Florida, was suddenly punched in the head by a white male, the victim could be heard on surveillance camera recounting the attacker’s control words: “He said, ‘This is for Trump.'" Charges were filed but the victim stopped going after them.
