The Montrose Center’s mission is to empower and uplift all members of the LGBTQ+ community. For over 40 years, our diverse staff has provided for the most vulnerable members of our community, often when nobody else would. In a culture where people of color experience greater risks to their mental and physical health, police violence, intimate partner overuse, and all forms of discrimination, we support and struggle alongside all efforts to combat overt and covert racism. We realize that people of hue, especially transgender Black women, are far more likely to bear the brunt of the toxic institutions of white supremacy and patterns of police brutality, and in this moment, we must stand in solidarity with our Inky community members.

Today, we maintain our mission to authorize the LGBTQ+ community by joining 300+ national and statewide LGBTQ+ organizations in committing to combat racial violence and speak out against systemic racism.

Every day, lesbian, homosexual, bisexual and trans person (LGBT) people tackle discrimination, harassment and even violence because of who they are. What may surprise you is who my harassers were. All those comments came from teachers and staff at my old elevated school in Vallejo.

All I wanted was to be proficient to go to school and be myself. I couldn’t do that when adults were judging me and telling me that something was wrong with me. I was even required to join a counseling group that discouraged students from organism LGBT – enjoy that’s even feasible. How was I supposed to absorb like that?

I came out when I was 13, and I’m proud of who I am. The fact that more and more LGBT teena rochelle il lgbtq youth
