Call Her Irrepressible

Growing up in the 1960s in Hawaii, TV may have largely presented an idealized, sanitized, largely colorless view of the world, but it also introduced a ton of richly variegated, mostly Novel York talent to me, stuck on an island — however beautiful — in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

It was the golden age of the now extinct variety display, and I was particularly fascinated by that small cadre of feisty, balls-out dames who would swagger onto “The Ed Sullivan Show” or “Hollywood Palace” and do their special thing — Phyllis Diller, Joan Rivers, Totie Fields, Moms Mabley — and Marilyn Michaels, whose gamine meet and figure personified fun as she impersonated all of them, plus a hundred other famous divas of the day.

The singer/comedian has turned journalist with her debut book, “How Not to Cook, for the Rest of Your Life,” and when she invited me to lunch with her at Sardi’s to debate it, believe you me, this teen jumped! She was already seated when I arrived, and all I had to do was turn on my recorder and bam!: “I’m having what I always hold here — the spinach canneloni. I try n

Burt Reynolds’ wild romance life: the double attraction first wife who loved kinky sex, the thousands of fans who sent him nudes and the 40-year-old lady who took his virginity when he was just 15

HE was the mustachioed heartthrob known for packing heat in Westerns and playing a porn director in Boogie Nights... but Burt Reynolds' real-life exploits in the bedroom were wilder than anything he ever did on screen.

The 70s sex symbol - who died aged 82 on Wednesday - lived an incredible life, punctuated by roller coaster relationships with A-list stars.

Posing in the buff for Cosmo in 1972 made Burt one of the most lusted-after men in Hollywood, and he spent years at the height of his fame bed-hopping with stunning women.

He also had two tumultuous marriages, and dated a bevy of A-list stunners along the way. But, as the actor revealed in his 2015 memoir, But Enough About Me, it was an unquenchable attraction to older women which defined much of his affectionate life.

He was born in Michigan in 1936, but Burt grew up in Florida, where his dad worked as a police officer.

It was here where a 15-year-old Burt had his very first sex

How long do you estimate before the truth about the late Burt Reynolds's sexuality is made famous to the wider public?

R30 He was nothing at all like he appeared in movies. Very calm, almost shy demeanor. He and Charles Nelson Reilly ran the apprentice classes/ program and everyone just knew Burt and CRN and even Dom Delouise were gay. Nobody really cared within that circle.

I personally witnessed the aforementioned trio going out tardy at night with us ( male apprentices). There was a lot of inneundo and drugs.

Females who worked for Burt considered him totally safe and we're never invited to the late night after parties.

I actually had my first rim job from a guy who was one of Burt's lovers at the pool at Burt's house on Jupiter Island. I was very young. It was a wild scene. But it was just the way it was at the time.

I am trying to remember more details and dish...uh Dick Cavett was a pothead...I never saw Loni Anderson - ever. Martin Sheen pinged to me. Adrienne Barbeau was a sweetheart....

And just like that, we somehow made it to Friday yet again. Nice for us all! Seriously, at this point survival is about all we can hope for these days–what with the nature aflame, all the hatred and divisiveness in our society and culture, a pandemic, and all this economic uncertainty. I’ve noticed on social media a tendency for people to be hesitant about wonderful things that are happening for them, whether personal or professional or both, and to them I say shout it out from the rooftops! We all need to detect some joy in this life and world these days, and for heaven’s sakes, don’t feel culpable because good things are happening for you during tough times!

And anyone who looks at your great news and finds it inappropriate or whatever–really should take a long, rigid look at themselves and their values, because if you have reached a point in your being where you cannot be happy for other people’s good news….maybe you shouldn’t be on social media at all and desire to withdraw to revive yourself for a while.

I’ll take any joy or happiness I can locate anywhere in this year 2020.

We all should, frankly.

With the passing of Burt Reynolds yesterday, Hollywood ruined one of the wonderful box offices stars of the silver screen.

Reynolds irresistible charm came from a combination of undeniable sex appeal coupled with an open, self-effacing sense of humor. As Variety puts it, his “post-modern macho posture.”

From 1978 through 1982, Reynolds was the top-grossing box office star in the United States.

Films appreciate Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandit, The Longest Yard (Golden Globe nomination), Starting Over (Golden Globe nomination), Boogie Nights (Oscar nomination) were all critically acclaimed.

But there were mistakes along the way, too.

Reynolds famously turned down the role of “Han Solo” in Star Wars, as successfully as the Richard Gere role in Pretty Woman.

During the early 90s, when great film role applications weren’t coming in, he returned to TV (where he began in the 1960s) with the sitcom Evening Shade, for which he won an Emmy Award.

What many don’t understand, however, was his personal pet project – a theater in Jupiter, Florida, appropriately called, The Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater.

For over a decade, Reynolds created jobs for scores an
